Behind the Scenes: Our Tireless Fight for Originality and Against Plagiarists

The fact that the Rybička knife is worth enough to someone to create a counterfeit may seem like a special honor, but in reality, it is parasitizing on the honest work, craftsmanship, and efforts of others. The low-quality counterfeits appearing on the market not only damage the good name of the traditional Mikov brand but, given the Rybička’s status, also discredit Czech industrial design as a whole.

That is why we have declared an uncompromising war on counterfeits and are using all available legal means to combat them. And it’s paying off! While a well-known case from 2014 went all the way to court, where it ended with a final judgment and a hefty fine for the counterfeiting company, in 2021 we achieved another major success. After just three months of intensive negotiations, two more manufacturers of counterfeit copies (one Czech and one foreign) agreed to a settlement. They committed to immediately withdrawing their products from sale and physically destroying them.
